Question
I have recently purchased a new Bio Orb 60L tank and have just put some new fish into it however since doing so my water has went cloudy and has been like this for a few days, do i have to clean my tank already or will it become clear again? My water was really clear before i put the fish in. thanks for any help you can give me :):)

Answer
Hello Arlene:  If the cloudy water is white in color it is a result of the beneficial bacteria reproducing and it will go away in a few days.  It is actually a good thing though I would keep my eye on the water chemistry levels of the tank for the next week or so.  If the water chemistry levels climb then I would do 20% water changes every other day.   Fish are both a biological and chemical contribution to tank water. Tank water is a very delicate balance between bacteria and tank waste such as fish poop.  When you add in fish to a small tank it throws off that balance. The beneficial bacterial colonies in your tank are demand based which means that if there is more waste then they can handle they begin to multiply. If there is less waste to sustain the colonies then the colonies shrink.  In your case you added fish and the balance between the two became unbalanced and the bacteria are multiplying.  The cloudy water is a good thing.  You can shorten the cloudy period by adding beneficial bacteria to your tank... hope this helps... dave
