Bettas?

Question
Hello, two days ago I bought a male and female betta. At the time I knew you should have more than one female, but the two I had picked up were the only ones I had wanted and looked healthy.
I can get another one or two this the weekend though. Now getting to the problem. The female's fins are torn leading me to believe it is because of the male chasing her, but I haven't seen him chase her once yet. The male also has a small tear and a hole in his tail fin. So my question is, is this fin rot on them both or is it just the aggression?

Answer
Hi Sam,
It is probably due to just the agression.  Usually when a fish has fin rot, it isnt just a small tear, it literally looks like the fins are dissolving.  If you do ever experience fin rot though, use Maracyn or Maracyn plus, both have very good reviews as antibiotics for treatment.  I suggest you get another female so the male would not be chasing the female too much.  It might cause the female to much stress and may or may not die.
