hi ron..

is there a web site that would enable a
non-scientist access to scientific works
as i am doing a study on the keeping and breeding of erethistidae and i am experiencing difficulties in getting hold of them.

Hi Adrian,
Unfortunately there isn't.  I'm not sure what you mean by Erethistidae.  I know of the genus Erethistes which is in the sisorid catfishes (Family Sisoridae).  I am not familiar with a family Erethistidae.  Has the genus been put in its own family?

When you say "scientific works", what exactly are you after? Perhaps I can help if you let me know what it is you need.

 hi ron
thanks for the swift reply.. yes to both your first two questions according to fish base hara, erethistes, laguvia and psuedolaguvia have now been given the family name of erethistidae. the reasons i am asking for help and assistance in obtaining scientific papers are that there is very little data on these fishes in books, and i am a member of the catfish study group (uk) i have succesfully bred one type over the past two years.
i had my notes published in the csg journal last year and i published them under the title breeding hara jerdoni .. i was aware at the time that there were not h;jerdoni but put that label on them as a means of trying to open debate on these fishes. but had very limited responce as people were either to unsure of identifying them or basical said that the fish in their opinion was ,  such and such .. so .. i decided to try and do a serious study into them not only identification but where they actually come from and data regarding biotype etc.how ever when i have chased down what appears to be good leads to them i cannot get further that a reference number and author of scientific work , and no means or instruction of how to obtain these papers. so any aid and assistance you could give me i would be hugely grateful..
another person of scientific standing has agreed to help me on this matter is shane linder but unfortunatly the american goverment has seemed it wise to send him to bagdad so i will probably have to wait until he arrives back at his desk in the states.
if you want to i have attached this link : http://www.dignall.com/gallery/medaka/ereth_y01_022
where you can find a photo of the adult of the type i breed with one of its young. the fish outwardly resembles the discription given for hara hara for the tail shape is supposed to be only like this on hara hara, but.
it does not resemble the photo of h;hara in the baensch photo atlas.
and when one died on me i looked at the pectoral spines inder a microscope
and the spines didnt match up to h;hara .. shane did write an article
where due to a scientific paper he had read gave the pectoral spines as a means of identification, but as i have said shane is in bagdad and has no means of helping me at

Answer
Hi Adrian,
Sorry for the delay -- it is final exam week here at my university and I have been busy inflicting pain and suffering on students...

Do you have the reference to the paper you seek, i.e., Author, data, journal and page numbers?  If so, send me that
and I'll see what I can do.

Are you close to any major university?  The best (and basically only) place to get scientific articles is at university libraries.
