Changing water

Question
I have 2 new betas in seperate small tanks. How often should I change their water and should I change the whole thing or just half of it. Also how much should I feed them, I notice they dont always eat everything and the tank gets dirty fast.

Answer
Hi Shannon;

If the tanks have no filter 100% should be changed once a week. If the tanks have a filter you should change 25% to 50% every week. Use a good water conditioner with the new water and be sure it is the same temperature as the old water.

Bettas need 2 to 4 pellets once a day of a good quality betta food. If they don't seem to be eating they might need their tanks moved to a warmer place or a light placed on the tanks for more heat. (Avoid direct sun or they could get too hot) Bettas are tropical so they need their water temperature to be 75 to 80 all the time. Otherwise, they often will not eat or will not be able to digest properly and develop intestinal blockage. Yours are probably fine though as long as you keep them clean and the temperature is up.
