My male bettas eye

Question
My tank has been set up for about 3 months, it's a three gallon tank. I've had my male betta for about a year, but he was in a little bowl until we set up the 3 allon tank for him(we found him on the floor one night barely alive and found out online that they jump so we got tank for him).He really is so much happier more active and everything,but lately he hasn't been eating as much and i've noticed a white dot in the center of one of his eyes and I think it's affecting his vision making it hard to see the food when I feed him.So I was just wondering if there are any treatments that you could recomend, or at least tell me what is wrong.

Answer
Hi Christina;

It could be the beginnings of an internal infection. You might try using "Maracyn 2". It absorbs inside the fish where the infection is. Most fish medicine tablets each treat ten gallons of water. Here is a web page on how to use medicine in smaller size tanks;

Also make sure his water is warm. Bettas need 76f at least, but at 80 or 82 is best when they are sick. There are small heaters like the one at this site you can use if it doesn't stay high enough;

I've found them at regular stores at a lower price so if you need one, shop around a bit.

I hope he feels better soon.....
