Fish into pond

Question
Okay, so here it goes. I had two little fish. I'm not sure what breed they are because we caught them. Me and my friends were at my house for my birthday and outside my house there is this pond. Well, its not a pond really...it is a large concrete bowl. there are fish in there. My friends and I caught a little runt one. I have been asking for a pet for ages, so we kept him. I named him. Then, I caught another one. This fish was a little bigger and I named him as well. He was probably the size of my thumb-nail when I caught him and the other one the size of my pinkie-nail. I slowly adapted them to tap-water (don't worry,  there is no chlorine in the water from where I live). I went away for the summer and my friend watched them. They GREW! Now Timmy, the big one, was teh size of half my pinkie-finger and Josh, the little on, 1/3 the size of my pinkie finger. I moved them into a MUCH bigger bowl and we went out to buy a tank...we looked at prices and planned to buy one next weekend. But, one day we went out, I came home and I couldn't find Timmy. Then, I found him, floating at the top of the bowl.He died on 9/11. I cried and cried. Then, I automatically cleaned the bowl (which i had been doing every week or sooner) and now 2 days later, Josh is still here. By this time, I buried Timmy and lit a special candle for him and cried some more. The thing is, I want Josh to go back to his home. Hes swimming around, searching for Timmy...but of course, he wont find him. Only after Timmy died did I realize what a mistake I had made...taking them out of their home! So, I want to put him back. I just don't know if he will be safe...should I slowly put pond-water into his bowl? or what? Please, Please help me. I am so sad over Timmy's death and I want Josh to be safe and back with his family...

Answer
Elisa, Pond fish have a tendency to get big and are usually pretty dirty. They need a complete system not a bowl  it is ok though. Take him out add abit of water about 1/4  cup at a time every 15   minutes or so for about 45 minutes and dump him in it will help him adjust to the changes acclimate him right back home. I know its hard, but you are doing the right thing.   Good Luck , Tina
