Question
This question isn't really about bettas but I just wanted to see if you could help.  I have bought a water snail for my tank which has two male bettas in it (with a divider).  The pet shop said that the snail does a good job cleaning the sides of the tank (I am still going to regularly clean the tank myself).  I mainly bought the snail for another interesting addition to my tank.  But i just wanted to know, because bettas require warm water, is this ok for the snail?  I have a light over the tank to keep it warm but could it over heat the snail?  Since i put a light over the tank this morning, the snail has retreated into his shell and doesn't seem to want to come out.
Thankyou for your advice

Answer
Hello Jessica-

Just want to warn you ahead of time: I placed a snail in a tank with one of my females, and she pulled it apart (and the tank was horribly messy afterwards!) If your bettas show aggression toward the snail, you may want to remove it before your little guys turn on it for amusement. But if they are ignoring it so far, you should hopefully be fine leaving it in there.

As for the warm water, anything 82 F or less should be fine. Snails are generally nocturnal, so you may see it moving around more at night or when the lights are dim. Be sure to leave the light off for at least a three hour span each day, unless it will jeopardize the water temperature.

Also be sure there is space on the glass for the snail to crawl up out of the water every now and then.

Hope you do well with your new little sticky snail friend!
