Bullied Fish???

Question
Hi, I bought 2 goldfish about 6 months ago. We were really inexperienced and bought a traditional goldfish bowl. It didn't have any filtration so we did a 100% water change every 2 weeks. The water we used was treated and left for 24 hours before it came into contact with the fish. We thought this would be ok, however one week the fish tank was left a little too long and one of the fishes started to get black marks on its fins. I got a bit concerned so I started to do a little research, this is where I stared to discover the 'proper' way to keep fish. The next day I went out and bought a 5 gallon tank with a good filtration system. I followed all the guidlines when introducing the fish but 2 weeks later the smaller of the 2 fish started to show signs of fungus (white cotton like substance) growing on its side, and his/her tail fin has started to rot, on noticing this I bought some medication (fish saver) and applied it to the tank, the fungus cleared up but the tail is really bad and not much left. I have heard that this may be caused by stress. The bigger of the 2 fish seems to bully the little fish I was wondering what I should do to save the little one?

Answer
Hello Andy,

Goldfish can be bullies, I own two goldfish that fight daily. If you still have your gold fish bowl, i would turn it in to a 'hospital' tank. Basically what you're going to do is set it up and move your little goldfish into it. Every, 3 to 4 days make sure you change 1/4th the water out. This will keep the tank squeeky clean. Its tail will grow back, its just needs to be kept in a very clean tank. I would also advise putting some Mela Fix in the tank. It is a medication for sick fish. It should help speed the process. It takes time, but your fish should end up being fine. When its back to full health, you can readd it into its orignal tank. :)

Good luck
Andy
