Question
hi, i have 2 black convicts in my aquarian.one is about 5 inches long and it hatched some newborns yesterday and it died today;how do i care for the newborns? there are about 20 or more in the tank. the other convict is small and it is eating the newborns, what should i do?

Answer
Sheila, They are going to eat them, especially if one of the parents are gone. They keep everyong at the top in the tank while they grow. The best thing I can recommend is moving them to a breeder tank that floats in your tank or a netted tank that is also in your water to keep the others away. The problem is netting these delicate babies. You can put more plants and decorations in for them to hide in also.As far as feeding you can get brine shrimp eggs from your local petshop and hatch them to feed or you can buy fry food from the pet shop. I find with these guys they have such a voracious appitites grinding fish flakes to dust will work...Tina
