ich and high amonia levels

hi, I am treating for ich which is going well and spots are disappearing however my fish are now eating bubbles and remain at top of tank not quite gasping but eating bubbles - I think its amonia poisoning and wnat to use amnio lock, can I treat as well carry on treating for ich?  I am only 4 days into treating the ich.

Hi Nina.  If your fish are at the top, they are gasping for air.  You need to get another air pump in there to put more oxygen in and you need to find out WHY this is happening.  You need to have your water tested, and have it done as quickly as possible.  I would also (right after you read this) do a tank cleaning and a 50% water change.  Make sure you put the water conditioner in when returning the water, and also make sure that the water is about the same temperature as what you took out.  Get your water sample out before you do the water change though.

If you don't have an air pump and stone, you should really get one, they come in handy.  Also, you should pick up a master water test kit so that you can test your water immediately if your fish start "acting weird".

After you have done all of this and have had your water tested, you can write back to me and let me know what happened and what you found out, and I'll try to help you from there, and hopefully help keep this from happening again.
