zebra fish - freshwater

Question
Hi,
My daughter has a zebra fish in a small tank who is usually incredibly spirited. Yesterday we noticed its tail has disappeared. It is alone, so cannibalism is not an issue. The behavior is now erratic which makes the fish look like it is either going mad or can't figure out what to do now it is tailless! What could be going on? How long would we expect this fish to live normally?
Thanks
Frances

Answer
Hello Frances,
If the zebra fish is all alone in a tank with no other zebras this could be bad. Zebra fish are grouping fish meaning they like to live in groups of 2 or more. Zebra fish can live up too 2-3 years and maybe even longer. Your zebra fish has fin rot. Its a disease that eats away at the fins of fish. Go to your local pet store and get medision for the zebra and then get him some friends. He will be much happier this way.
Hope This Helps
Kyle
