hi its me again matt,
i was wondering, i have a small aqaurium with one goldfish and i was wondering if it was safe for my fish to leave the aquarium light on all night,

Hi again Matt,

If you forget to turn the lights off by accident, one time won't hurt, but don't make it a habit to use your aquarium as a night light. Fish need to sleep too!

They are likely still sleeping with the light on, sort of, but not deeply enough to be able to regenerate tissues, aid with digestion, and regulate metabolism - all things that occur with deep sleep. In humans too, not just fish!

If you really like the idea of having your aquarium on as a night light, the (mostly LED) lights they sell as "moonlights" shouldn't bother your fish at all. Here's an article on making your own DIY moonlights:
