my betta wont eat!

Question
I just got a beta from wal-mart about 4 days ago. problem is, it keeps on twitching as it swims, and it refuses to eat. I feed it everyday but the flake food just dissolves and makes the water murky. he keeps on trying to hide beneath the stone hearts at the bottom of his tank. I don't know if he's just a wimp or if there's something wrong with him.why won't he eat? and also, why is he so twitchy? and also, he keeps on going to the top of the water to grab air. is he making a nest or is he suffocating? please reply soon.

Answer
Charlotte, I don't know if someone got back to you on this yet, but it sounds like he has a parasite called fluke worms which collect on the gills and make it hard to breathe. Even though they have a labirynth organ and breathe air they still need thier gills. I would rush to my pet shop and get some coppersafe. Add it everytime you change your water for about a month. Sometimes it takes 15 to 20 days to get rid of these buggers.......Good Luck, Tina
