Question
Hiya,

I have a 3 year old Black Moor. For the past 2 months he has been floating on the surface of the tank. I got recommended in the pet shop a swimbladder treatment. He seemed to right himself. I've just looked at him again, fearing he was dead as I saw no movement, and his right side is totally bulging out, and is now witha  white fungus and bits of blood :(

I have introduced fresh plants into the aquarium, done regular water changes, and used fresh food and can't seem to "fix" him.

Any suggestions? I can't stand seeing him like this, and today has just topped it off with all the blood.

Answer
Hi Jade;

Poor guy. It sounds like an internal infection of some kind. He is very sick indeed. The only medicine that I know of that can heal internal infections is called "Maracyn Two". It's an antibiotic available in most fish stores. If you decide to use it, also get some aquarium salt and melafix too. They help soothe damaged tissues and help heal.

It's a very personal decision and I hesitated to even mention it, but if he doesn't get better and you decide that his suffering needs to end here is a web page on a humane way to euthanize fish;

I hope he feels better....
