QuestionHi. I have my pet betta in a rather small (about 1/2 gallon) aquarium. I see that many others keep bettas in even smaller environments. Is this really OK for any critter to be so confined? Or should I get my betta a larger living space?
Thank you.
AnswerJulie,
While bettas do originally live in small bodies of water, the common misconception about them is that they like really small tanks (like 1/2 gallon)and there is considerably more water in their natural environment. They can survive for quite a while in something so small, yes, but this does not mean it's ideal. You could live in a closet for probably all your life, but you wouldn't be very happy.
I never recommend anything under two gallons for any fish - that includes bettas.
