QuestionWe have a cichild fish with a bulge under ther thraot. We have gathered that she
may be holding eggs in her mouth. In order to fertilize these eggs, do we need a
male of the same breed. As we do not have one we have male fish but of
different breeds. We are unable to tell you what type of cichlid she is... could you
advise us on the next step to fertilize these eggs
AnswerHi Chad,
Yes, she is holding eggs but if they haven't been fertilized by now, it is too late -- they need to be fertilized within seconds or being laid.
Unfortunately, males of other species will fertilize the eggs. This is unfortunate because the result are hybrid fish which are a cross between two species.
