Jumpy goldfish

Question
QUESTION: Hi, I have a question about my goldfish. I have two tanks, with two of goldfish in each (there's no room for more than two in either tank). About a month ago I bought bigger tanks for both pairs. Before I bought the new tanks all my goldfish were quite calm, and for the first few weeks of new tanks they were calm and very friendly. However, they have begun to get very jumpy, especially in the early morning (2-5 am) which is a big problem, as one tank is in my bedroom. You see, usually they just drift around the tank but (on increasingly frequent occasions) they dart around the tank, banging into the walls, digging through the stones at the bottom, and twisting their bodies back on themselves. It looks very painful and I very loud. Is there anything I can do to calm them down?

ANSWER: Hey Anna,

They are probably more active during this time which obviously is bad for you!

I would put more fish in the tank and see how they behave,  How big are your tanks? as this would depend on the number of fish you add.

Please reply with your tank sizes,  Jack

QUESTION: both tanks are 10 litres I think. The only problem is, the tanks are not big enough for all 4 fish, and they don't like to be alone in their tanks.

Answer
Hey again Anna,

Wow!  Your tanks are way to small, I suggest getting a 30 gallon tank which is around 140 litres.  Then all your goldfish can go together.  I have three goldfish in a 30 gallon with 7 leopard danios,  danios are great fish to put in with goldfish, so i would put at least 6 danios in with the fish to make them more happier.

Hope this helps,  Jack
