Question
Hi,
I've had a fresh water live bearers tank for a month now. First I had few guppies, 2 died and 4 survived. 5 days ago I bought few more guppies, 2 platies and 3 Mollies. Before i bought them i saw a guppies tail end was a bit red. There days ago it was tail rot its moved in to a small bucket with a 100 w heater and Oxygen-treated with pimafix which is about to expire in a few days(dealer told it was ok even after expiery because its natural ingredients)
Community tank/bucket:
Gallons:40
Temp- 26'C/78'F
Ph:7.3
Kh:4
Gh-9
Amonia:0.1
N02/NO3: 0
salt:no salt
The guppy doesnt seem to recover. May be it is(only been three days). But still the edges are croocked. Does pima fix lose strength near expiary.
I saw one molly head up virticle today, but after feeding it looks fine. dont know whether theres any problem. Sometimes the mollys scratch their sides on wood. could it be any disease? Should i add salt while there are guppies in the tank? Please help. I seem to have trouble with fish keeping. I dont want to lose this stock as well.
Thanks for your help.

Answer
Hi Km,
Sorry but I have no way of knowing about the potency of Pimafix after it expires. The fact that it was made of natural ingredients or not has absolutely no bearing on whether it will retain its potency with time. In other words, the dealer was making that up.

I never add salt to a freshwater fish tank.

How often are you doing water changes?   You should be changing 25% of the water once a week, every week.  Are you doing that?
