sick jack dempsey

ron,i have a jack dempsey he is about 6 or seven years old. the other morning i noticed he started freaking out and jumped out of the tank and was on the floor. i have noticed in the last couple of days very strange behavior and i find him on the bottom of the tank with shallow breathing and approximately 20-25 minutes later he seems fine. any ideas on what is going on?

Hi Daniel,
  Have you been doing regular, weekly partial water changes?  You should be changing 25% of his water once a week, every week.  Have you been doing that?
