Question
Hi i am new to all this as someone bought my 13yr old a full tropical 2ft x 1ft tank setup. So we bought guppies & goldfish. Its only been set up a week but they get on well, Will they be ok together?.

Answer
Hi Cheryl,
Guppies, and Goldfish do not mix.  The reason is that they both need different water in order to thrive.  The Goldfish needs alkaline and cool water, the guppies need neutral, and warmer water.  Guppies live in 77 to 82 degree water.  The goldfish also grow to be very big, and once they can fit the guppies into their mouth, they will eat them.  You also need good filtration with goldfish.  They are big eaters, and very messy.  You will soon need a bigger tank, as goldfish grow to 10 inches long, and each goldfish needs 20 gallons of water all to himself.   I would not recommend putting these fish together.
