Question
My angel pr. eat their eggs, so I pulled the leaf they laid them on. I took their water and put it into a 5 and half gal tank with a bubbler and heater and have a teaspoon of Methyene Blue. they are wigglers after 3 and a half days. My question is, do I leave the fry in the 5 gal tank with the methylene blue after they start swimming? the water is really blue, could I just add some more water from the parents tank?  How long can I leave them in that tank?    Thanks so much Diane

Answer
Hi Diane,
A 5 gallon tank is really too small to raise fry.  They will not last long in a 5 gallon tank.  I would go with a 30 gallon tank or bigger if you have many fry.  Daily water changes are a must after they are free swimming.  Fry need to be fed 4 times a day, so 25% water changes everyday is a must.  You can use fresh water from the tap, always using a good water conditioner.  Once they are free swimming, and your water is free of ammonia, and nitrites, you do not need to use methylene blue.  Make sure your water is cycled, meaning no ammonia, no nitrites, and that nitrates are low.  You can buy these small test kits at your pet store, and they are a "Must Have" when keeping fish.  Ammonia, and Nitrites are the number one killer of fish.
You must feed the fry baby brine shrimp that you will find at the pet store in the frozen section, or you could do this yourself with a brine shrimp hatchery.  After 10 days, or depending on how fast they grow, you can start feeding them dry food that you crush very small so that it resembles something like pepper.  Alternate the dry food with the brind shrimp so they get use to it.  Vary their diet at this point.  After a little while you could add frozen blood worms, and brine shrimp to their diet.
Good Luck!
