Question
Hello,
I had a betta shipped Tuesday, and the seller accidently sent it to my other house. I don't know how soon I can go and pick up the package. The box should be inside air conditioning, however can the fish survive in the shipping box until Saturday?

Answer
Brian,

He needs to be removed from the shipping bag NOW. Don't be surprised if you go on Saturday and he is dead. How long was the shipping period? Although he is a Betta and they can survive some strange things, there is going to be a lot of ammonia in his bag. There might not be any oxygen in the bag either. If he is in air conditioning, why wasn't he removed from the box? If the breeder that sent him to you is a reputable breeder, that box would have had to be signed for or it would not have been delivered, and returned to sender. I am a Betta breeder, and I never send like that. This is a living creature that will not survive if not removed from that box ASAP. Sorry if I sound harsh, but he is in very little water, with very little oxygen. They only put enough in to sustain the fish to get from point A to point B. I hope he has a 5 gallon tank with a heater set at 82 degrees. Please, let me know if he survives his trip. I would really like to know. If he is alive, put him in water immediately. DO NOT add the water that he is in to the tank he is going in. If you do, you will be adding a lot of problems to a fish that already has a lot going on. Also feed him some frozen blood worms at first to get him back to tip top shape. You might want to get a medicine that treats fin rot because he might have that problem, along with ammonia poisoning. Remember to condition the water before you put him in, but please, make sure the water is no colder than 82 degrees and no warmer than 86. You might want to add an air stone to his tank for a few days as well to add much needed oxygen to the water. I do hope that he will be fine, and I will wait to hear from you on the outcome of his travels.
