Gold Fish Hurt?

Hello
I got a fan tail orange gold fish and it was dropped on the floor. Now it is always up at the top always getting air.
It does this all day never quitting except for when it eats.
What is wrong with it?  Will it die?

Hi Christine;

Poor guy. He has experienced a pretty serious trauma so it may take him some time to recover from the stress. Provide extra oxygen to the water with an airstone while his gills heal. Change his water often to help remove any dead skin or scales that could fall off of him as his injuries heal. Clean water also helps avoid infection. You may not see injuries but whenever a fish is exposed to the air they can be damaged and new skin and scales push out the old as they are replaced. The water can become more dirty as that happens.
