Green Spotted Puffer Fish

Question
Hi there, I am also an expect here for the 'iphone' area.

I am some what knowledgeable about fresh water fish,I have been in the hobby for about a year give or take and I have been loving it ever since. So now down to my question I went to a local pets store and talked to the owner (which they are usually extremely well knowledgeable about there animals) about a green spotted puffer to put in my 56 gallon tank that I have. He told me that they do prefer brackish water tanks that most of the green spotted puffers are now mostly adaptive to the fresh water and can survive in my tank. I do have the API aquarium salt in the tank right now but I have read that thats not the right stuff to make the tank a brackish tank. So is it true? That just years of them living in freshwater make it where they can live in it? Any help will be great.

I already have two tanks and I dont think I will be able to set a brackish tank just for him right now,so If worse comes to worse I will have to return him back to the shop. But I really do love this guy hes so interesting.

Answer
Taylor,

Welcome to this side of allexperts. They do need to be in brackish water and any aquarium salt will work. Yes they can survive in fresh water but their life span will dramatically drop. I have found a great website all about these little guys that I think you will enjoy reading. It tells you everything you need to know.
