Question
QUESTION: I got a 160ltr tank and it's been cycling for a month now and I've got 2 fantails, 3 comets, 2 tiny orandas ph in the morning is 7.4 when I turn on the light the ph goes up during the day,to 7.6 or 7.8 will this harm them.and when i change the water it goes up again and kills the bateria what to do?

ANSWER: Kim,
If the tank is still cycling, there should not be any fish in the tank. Ph is easier for a fish to adapt to than any of the other chemicals. You can get a product that will raise or lower the PH, you can try them to see if it helps. Just make sure you are testing the water daily and doing the water changes weekly.

QUESTION: I put bacteria buffer in the tank and bio rings from a little matured tank will this help? How offen do I change the filter.?and what else can I use in the filter? Thanks.

Answer
I would stop putting the bacteria buffer in the tank because it does nothing to help cycle a tank. Changing the filter depends on what type you are using. Some filters, all you have to do is rinse the media and put it back in. If that is not the type you have, replace filter media once a month. When changing the media, make sure you are floating the new media in the tank for a couple of days before you put it in the filter. This help the new filter set with beneficial bacteria. If you only rinse the media, make sure you are rinsing it with tank water. This too helps maintain the good bacteria in the filter.
