Injured doves

Question
I had two ring-neck doves in an outside cage and they were attacked by an owl, I have since brought them inside, they are alert and eating but they are not flying at all. One of the doves has a bad cut along it's wing, and the other looks like it might have a cut/puncture in its chest. I don't want to handle either bird because I am fearful of making things worse and I don't want to stress them anymore. This happened on Wed. nite and it is now Sunday afternoon. These birds are about 10 years old. My question: Is there an anti-bacterial spray that I can spray on their wounds to help prevent infection??
Thanks!

Answer
Hi, Linda,

I'm sure they aren't flying due to their injuries, particularly on the wing and chest.  Depending on the severity of the wounds (you may need to take these birds to an avian veterinarian for a professional check), most injuries heal themselves very well.  However, you can purchase spray-on antibacterial spray from Global Pigeon Supplies on the internet.  They ship very quickly once you place an order.  There are many other pigeon supply houses on the internet.  You can also try cleaning the wounds with Betadine.  I often just clean the wounds with Betadine and that's all that's needed.  However, you can also apply antibiotic cream to the area (you can purchase at any store selling over-the-counter meds).  Usually, just keeping the wounds clean and dry will allow them to heal on their own just fine.
