My Ringneck Doves

Question
I have 2 ringneck doves that I am sure are not siblings or the same sex.  They layed one egg 4 days ago and then another one 2 days later.  The female attends to the eggs but never actually goes ONTO the eggs.  The male does not go to the nest at all.  What should I do about it?  I really want to have little dove babies because I find them kind of cute.

Answer
Hi, Dwight,

How are you sure one is a male bird?  What are their ages?  How do you have these birds set up for breeding?  Any other birds in the same cage?  When you say the female "attends" to the eggs, what is she doing?  Have you actually seen these 2 birds mating?  How long have these 2 birds been paired up?  What courting/mating signs have you seen in these 2 birds?

Females can lay infertile eggs without mating with a male bird.  This might be what is going on.  However, if you will respond to my questions above, I'll see if I can help.

Dove babies are cute, but you can easily become overrun with doves, as doves are usually quite prolific and can produce offspring about every 3 months.  What do you plan on doing with all the babies?!

Thanks.
