nest in food dish

Question
Hello, I have two pair of finches, one society, one zebra, and have no nest in the cage because I didn't want them to breed. The male zebra decided to make a nest in the food dish. So now I have provided them both nests. I know this is sad, but I really don't want to raise babies. Can I allow them to lay the eggs and just remove the nests with the eggs after a few days? Today they are building the nests, how long until I have eggs, what time line do I give them before I remove the nests to ensure she has laid all the eggs? Will it hurt the birds or make them mean to remove the eggs? What if the time line for one pair varies from the other, can I remove one nest one day and the other another day, or both at same time? Thank you very much, your answers have been very helpful in the past.

Answer
Hi Bethany,
I'm glad I've helped out in the past, that's good to know!
I would just take out any nestboxes you have...if they lay in the dishes, just take them out daily,as you find them..this won't cause the bird any harm.  If they don't have a nest to lay in,and don't have materials to build with, they'll do it in other places but taking them out right away is the best thing to do...no harm done, good luck,Elizabeth
