Female Budgie Behavior

Question
Can you tell me, Calyopea, what I can do about the Female Budgie (it was supposed to be a male) I received this Christmas as a baby, who is throwing out all her seed and gravel from the cups in her cage.  Do you know why and how I can stop this?  She is the only budgie I have and I don't want to get another one.  Thanks
Ruby

Answer
Hello Ruby,

My female budgie did this exact same thing. She ended up laying eggs and this is what she may do. One way you can fix this is getting a really small cup so she can't get in or get some gravity fed feeders. This way you don't have to get another bird and hopefully this will stop her from laying unfertile eggs. I will also give you a website of the 10 things you can do to stop breeding behavior.

http://www.forthebirdsdvm.com/breedingbehavior.htm

The website says the 10 things you can do to stop your bird from laying eggs but most of it can apply to stopping breeding behavior as well.

Thank you for the question!
