My parakeet

Question
Leah,
I have a parakeet who is about a year old and two days ago when changing the food and water I noticed a rather large tumor, which I had originally thought was an egg, protruding from the birds rectum.  His body is very swollen
and seems to stay mostly on the top perch, although he does come down for food and water.  The other bird and the sick bird kiss all the time.  After reading your answer could you tell what happened to the bird in question and what can I give my sick bird as far as fruits and vegetables are concerned to make him feel better.  I would appreciate any help you can give me.  Thank you.

Answer
With something as potentially serious as this, you need to call a vet.  I don't know what exactly is wrong, but I doubt that there's anything that you could have done differently.

If he's not feeling well, he may not feel up to eating and drinking as much as he should.  Make sure that he has treats and things that he will want to eat, so he doesn't starve himself.

With sick birds, its best to keep their environment warm, dark, and humid.  If you have a humidifier or a vaporizer, great!  But if you don't, running a warm shower for a while in the bathroom to get it all steamy will work too.

Its pretty rare for a one-year-old to develop problems like this, but its not unheard of.  Growths like this, if caught early and treated properly, can be safely removed, and the bird will continue to lead a long, happy, healthy life!

Call your vet, and get that little guy in there.
I hope I was of some help!
Keep me posted!
