Question
Hi,

I have a male budgie over a year old. He wasnt hand raised and he is still quite scared of my hand. He will let me get close to him and he will drink from the bowl that I hold up to him. He will let me play tapping games with his mirror and his toy bird but will not let me touch him. He also licks my finger and tests it with his beak whenever I'm playing with him. How can I get him to trust me more?

He also does some behaviours I dont know what they mean. He will click or do a clicking sound. He will make a mumbling/chattering sound. He also stretches and wing raises at me. What does this mean? I also cannot get him another budgie until early next year what can I do to make his life better as a solitary bird?

Thanks for any help.

Answer
Hi Naomi,

I have to say from your description its sounds like your budgie trusts you alot the fact that he stretches and wing raises at you means he he trying to impress you it's like he is saying "look how pretty I am" basically he's treating as he would another budgie which is fantastic!
Some birds just don't like to be touched, it is upto you as to wether you want to get another bird, I must warn you that if you do you may loose the bond you have between the both of you.
The chattering and clicking is just normal budgie chatter it means he's happy and relaxed.

By the sounds of it your budgie and you have a great relationship but unfortunately he may never let you cuddle and kiss him but if I were you i'd take it as a compliement :)
