QuestionHi Leah just wanted to let you know how my little budgie is doing. I had to take of his splint and put a new one on, the one the vet put on was to tight and his little feet were swelling and going purple, so I made a newer one with abit more space and he is doing great. He has even manage to crawl around the bottom of the cage now lol Kind of looks like a fish out of water lol Do you think he will be able to walk with the splint on or will he continue to crawl around??? I have been taking him out and proping him up in my hands so he can sort of stand.
Thanks for the idea on the special netting perch, I am going to try and make one for him.
AnswerFor now, keep it on. He probably won't be able to walk for a little while. Let him stand in your hands a couple of times a day. That will help his legs get stronger and help him get ready to learn to walk. Considering his age, the fish out of water thing is pretty normal. He's like a toddler first learning to walk, only with his legs tied together! He might learn to walk with the splint on. If he does, that's a good indication that the splint is ready to come off.
