Fabric cage apron

Hi Leah, I've searched and searched the Internet trying to find what I think would prevent the bird seed from falling on our floor, but haven't been successful, so I'm thinking of making a simple fabric wraparound for the bottom half of our cage.  Is this a viable solution or will our budgie pick at and then swallow the threads?

Its possible they'll just pick at it.  What we do to keep the seed from getting everywhere is we have a cage with a deep bottom and a pull-out tray to collect most of it, and have a simple tablecloth under the cage on the table to catch anything that falls.  Then, just shake out the tablecloth once it gets dirty.  There's nothing thats guaranteed not to work, but there's none that is guaranteed to work either.
