help my budgie is in pain

my nearly 1 year old budgie has a sore on one is he's left back claws, it is really red and you can see that he is in pain and you can see that is it bigger than it is meant to be i see him standing on his right foot to keep the weight of it. I have herd that there are some things that you can put on it from stuff around the house e.g. vinegar. can you please help me find out what i can do for ma budgie

and as will he has like a build up of something around his beak and one of his eyes it is not really bothing him, but i some times see him scratching them on something is there any thing i can do about this, to make it go away please help????

It sounds like your bird has a condition called scaly leg and scaly face.  Yeah, really creative names huh?  Both conditions are usually caused by mites; they burrow under the skin and cause irritation and discomfort.  Symptoms include dry, very scaly legs that show white plaques, crusty skin around the beak and constant itching and scratching.  The birds will often pick at their itchy legs and sometimes cause them to bleed and get tender.

This condition not only makes the bird miserable, but it can be fatal if left untreated.  Call your vet to confirm and seek treatment.  I've heard of the vinegar treatment, but I've never heard of it working.  

To prevent further outbreaks, there are these disks you can buy at most pet stores that you can attach to the cage to kill mites and other parisites.  If nothing else, prevention is the best medicine.
