Question
Leah please help me I have a bugdie thatI have had for approx 2 1/2 yrs not sure how old she is.I noticed that there is a lump near her vent thatis about the size of an egg. However I do know it is not egg bound as it is soft seems tender. She seems still in good spirits and her droppings still seem normal she eats and drinks and has a roommate, who gives her lots of attention.I don't know if she is pain or not.I am scared to death for this little thing as we do not have an avian vet in the town we live in and not one close by,can you please help me with this as it is tearing me up I did not notice this earlier with her.Thank you

Answer
I know of a couple of possible culprits.  They do require veterinary intervention.  I know you said it's a long ways away, but it might save your bird's life:

One possibility is that a feather didn't break the surface of the skin and has started to grow under the skin.  This can cause lumps under the skin. This can be corrected pretty easily.

Has she had eggs recently?  Sometimes when a hen has a difficult egg, or sometimes just is having difficulty getting droppings to pass they strain too much and they can get prolapses in their vets.  It's kind of like hemorrhoids.  Lumps are usually the first symptom, and they act fine most of the time unless the tender lump is touched.

The other possibility is something that no one wants to think about; cancer.  Most of the time it doesn't have many symptoms until it has progressed far enough that nothing can be done.  Have her checked out immediately.

I hope this helps!
