Question
I rescued a blind cockatile from where I work and I was wondering how i wean him. He is, I think about 4 months but he can't seem to find his seed dish. Please help before he gets sour crop.

Answer
Hi, Melissa.  Thanks for posting your question.

If this tiel is 4 months old, he's already weaned.  Weaning is when they go from being handfed by a human (using a handfeeding syringe and baby parrot formula) or being fed by the parents to eating on his own.  Sour crop comes from handfeeding formula being too cold when fed and/or from bacteria or other health problems in the crop.

This tiel has had to have been able to find his seed dish up to now (from weaning) or it would not have survived, unless he's been handfed his entire life (is this the case?).

I guess what I'm trying to say is that I'm confused about this situation based on your post.  Therefore, please provide additional clarifying information so that I can help further.

Thanks.
