What happened to my egg?

My budgies were mating and I was glad so i bought this nest stuff from a veterinary clinic and put it in the cage on top of the shaving in the bottom. The next day there was an egg in the nest and i was so happy, but when I came home the next day and went to check on the egg and it had disappeared. The nesting fluffy was all torn up and all over the cage.I thought maybe the mom buried it to keep it warm, so I ran my fingers through the shavings and there was no egg or egg shells. My question is what may of happened to the egg?

Hello Ashley.  Thank you for your post.
Make sure to put a calcium block in the cage.  It sounds like the female is lacking on the calcium and probably has eaten the egg.
Also, make sure that you give your birds some vitamins.  You can get them at your local pet shop.
