Question
I would like a bird for a pet but i'm not sure what to get because
I have little sisters around and friends who come here often
and none of them are used to being around birds but my
grandma would like a parrot but my grandpa wants a cockatiel
and I don't know what to get. I am used to being around birds
because I hang around pet stores and and look at all the birds
for a long time. And my friend from school breeds cockateils
and lovebirds. But I want you to tell me about some birds that
are good with kids and people holding them.

Answer
Usually a hand-fed cockatiel is your best choice as a first time bird that is good with lots of different people handling him/her. Cockatiels can also be good choices for people with children in the household. Cockatiels are a type of parrot (so your grandma and grandpa can both be happy with a cockatiel!) :) :)  Cockatiels are not as prone to boredom or behavioral problems as larger parrots are. They also don't live as long (a cockatiel should live only 20 to 30 years if properly cared for, compared to larger parrots which live for 50 to 80 years).

Here is an excellent article that will help you decide what is the best type of bird for you:
