cockatiel acting strange--breeding behavior?

Question

Hi! I have two birds, a quaker who is around my age (19 years old) and a cockatiel who is just over a year old. I think they are both females, as when I got the Quaker (when I was 15) the lady told me that she'd laid eggs before. Anyway. The question is about my cockatiel, she is like, courting me. It's creeping me out, and I want it to stop. For the past few weeks (maybe since Spring officially hit?) she's been a LOT more vocal than usual, and when I leave the room, she freaks and flies around. When I talk to her in a soft voice (as I often do with my birds) she leans forward and starts making soft peeping noises while having her eyes fixated on me. Tequila, my quaker, likes me, but has never exhibited this kind of behavior. I've seen cockatiels mate before, and I'm pretty sure that my 'tiel is acting like a female would, accepting a male's courtship. My question is this: Will her behavior just lessen as the season turns, or should I get her a friend? If I do get another bird, does it have to be a 'tiel? I would prefer to get a budgie to keep her company. I've had tiels and budgies together before, and they both are docile in nature most of the time. Would it work?

Thanks for your time, I hope you can help me out :)

Answer
Hi Tara,

Yes, as breeding season winds down the flirting behavior will stop. You could obtain a friend for her but she sees you as her mate. To really get her attention off of you I would recommend another Tiel.

Breaking up is hard to do! :>)

Good Luck,
