Question

Hello,

I have 2 Cockatiels, one of each sex. I have had them for 4 months now and they are about 9 months old.
The male ( Dennis ) comes out of his cage, sings, displays his wings and steps up onto my finger like a dream...... he is a fantastic bird. His mate Daphne however hisses everytime I get close to the cage and although she will reluctantly step up on to my hand, she will bite while she is sat on your finger........ she draws blood everytime ! Its almost as if she has a taste for human flesh as she will just sit and bite for no reason ( or so I think)Ive tried offering food, but she just attacks it ! I dont know what to do. she just seems veruy hostile and not a people bird at all. She would rather sit in her cage on her own.
Any ideas of waht I could do ?

Many Thanks

Answer
Hello Emma and thank you for your questions,

Well a sinlge cockatiel makes a better cuddley pet, If the female doesnt want to play nice I'd leave her in the cage rather then be bit! You could force tame her via taking her out of cage in a towel twice a day for 10 minutes clipping her wings and taking her into a quite bathroom and sitting her on your finger and storking and petting her... it works with most birds but you might be bitten I'll warn you in advice. Your lucky the male is friendly... I had two cocaktiels before they were parent raised and male/female they were so scared of me I didnt know about the force method at the time and got rid of them... they were nothing compared to the handfed cocaktiel I before she was so very loving. Ofering foods never worked for em with any bird but worth a shot I guess.
