strange breathing

my cockatiel has lost its chirp, it now sounds like a feint squeak. This has happened over 2 days. it is very short of breath when it takes a short flight, compared to what it could do. Its eating and drinking normally but seems to be wanting more personal attention. cage is reasonably clean and its had no millet for a few weeks

If your cockatiel's behavior seems fine, and she/he is eating and drinking ok, he/she should be fine. Your cockatiel wanting more attention however, is a good sign.

I would suggest taking your cockatiel to a vet though, just to make sure his/her breathing is not harmful to her.
