Question
I have recently bought a 16.2 hand american warmblood mare who is 6 years
old. She was with her previous owner for 5 years. She has never been alone
without any other horses. When I went to ride her and buy her she did great.
Now that she is away from her herd  she is spooky and difficult to deal with.
She won't buck, rear, kick or bite, however she has been ridden mainly in the
mountains. I can't even get her out of the pasture and she will spin, hold her
head high and do the complete opisite of what I am asking. She is so spooky
that she ran from a sheep today. I bought her to have as a familt horse and
now I don't want my husband or kids around her for their lack of experiance.
Any advice to make her trust me more and calm down a little?????  thank you
so much.

Answer
Hi Sarah,
You have two choices, depending on how much you are attached to your mare and how much time you have. If you have the time, you can send her to a Trainer. This could take as little as 60 days to as much as 6 months. There is still no guarantee that this will make her a safe family horse. Your better bet would be to sell her to an experienced horse person and to buy a horse that you can use now as a family horse. I would to buy a horse that ranges in age from 9-14.
