Question
My horse is afraid of people. My grandpa got her at a horse sale and she seemed fine. She doesn't want to be caught and when you do catch her she starts shaking. Can this be fixed?
Thanks!

Answer
How old is this horse, and how old are you.  How much experience do you all have with horses?

This can be fixed in most horses, but will take consistent handling.  When you work around this mare, or work with her, you need to be calm, but matter of fact, and don't baby her.  Don't use a "high pitched" voice, just low tones, and don't emphasize any fears she might have.  When you "baby" a horse that way, saying "it's all right, don't be scared" many times what a horse picks up is the tone of your voice, and that there is something to be scared of.

Work with her in a firm, kind manner, and don't forget to watch her, as one that is scared is apt to move quickly if they feel threatened.

She also may have never been handled at all, and that would account for the shaking.  Many times horses are run through a sale that have had NO handling at all.  First time they were touched was when thrown into trailer and hauled off.

Patient handling, and calm manners from you all will more than likely solve this.
