Question
Hi I have a little colt that is 2 weeks almost 3 weeks old.. He has been handled since he was born but not a whole lot.. just been petted and brushed when I went to feed... Now all of a sudden he will not let me within arms length of him and he freaks and runs to his mother... The only thing I can think that might have traumatized is when we where working with the halter... But I just dont know what to do with him...

Answer
Hi Kayla,
Having a new foal can be a rewarding experience and a ton of fun.
If the foal is in a small pen or still in the stall, you can just go in there, sit down on a bucket and read a book. Foals are curious by nature. It will soon come up to you. If it does, ignore it. As it keeps coming up to you, you will be able to start putting your hands on it more and more. Be patient. Enjoy your new little horse and have fun with it. But don't rush it. Take your time.
