Question
Hi, i have a 2 yo tb mare who when i got her was producing milk or fluid and her teets are long and fat like her mothers, she was also in really poor health.  I had her palpated and the vet said she wasnt pregnant, and its speculated that she lost the foal before i got her.  Her mom is 16.2 hands and we dont know too much of who her father is but its possible that it is her brother whos father was American Chance (16.2 hh) Knowing this she is only 14.2 hh, but is gaining weight rapidly thanks to the feeding program we have her on and she is almost at her top weight. But do you think she is done growing? Is 14.2 "stunted" for a horse like that with that kind of history? Thanks

Your vet would be able to give you the best advice on this issue.  Most horses are growing up until five years.  The first two years are spent growing up, and the last three are spent growing out.  So she may get a little taller, but not much.  Certainly poor nutrition would stunt a horses growth.

Best of Luck!
