Question
Hello, i have a 4 year old standarbred very tall and lazy horse about 17 hands thats why he did not race haha.... i do wear spurs when i ride him and even that wont make him move off my leg ..... he will go fine and then he will decide that he wants to stop and starts bucking when i still want him to walk forward and trot. i even turn him in a circle both directions and he still is stubborn and lazy....how do i get him out of this habit of thinking when he is done he throws a fit and bucks no matter what i do with him?  i am useing a jointed kimberwicke with him which he seems to not mine at all but would this have anything to do with him being stubborn and not wanting to work?

Answer
You can try switching bits, however, I don't think this is the problem.  To be absolutely honest with you, my thought is he may be bored.  Bored and young.  These young guys do get bored quickly and seem to enjoy testing the waters to see what kind of behavior they can get away with!

If possible, try incorporating some new tracks and variations in your exercise program.  Keep him on his toes so that the routine is less routine.  If you find he still resists, pause for a moment.  Walk into the center of the ring  and halt.  Relax and watch other riders, clouds, or whatever is around.  Then take some time to scratch his mane from poll to withers.  Consider hopping off for a few moments to even stretch his legs for him.  Then hop back on and session.  Horses are much like young teenagers.  They are aware of so many things at once that they can become bored very quickly!!
