hi i am wondering about teaching m 6 month old colt to lead he is halter broke but leading isnt going so well. when i put the rope on him and try to get him to come forward he first tries to bite at my hand where im holding him but ill fuss at him tell him no then say come on he may take a step then stop and try to bite agian,is this what should be going on should i just let him take a few steps then stop or will this make him think he is doing what he wants"hes the boss"?

Answer
Hello,
Don't think of it as who is the boss, think of how you can get his feet to be lighter. Lead him from further down the lead line so he cant play with you so much. If he gets heavy lead him to the side and when he steps give on the pressure on the lead. We are trying to teach him to give to pressure, so life has got to be easier for him when he is walking then when he is not. You could pull out another horse and have a friend help by keeping that horse in the lead. Just keep asking yourself "what can I do to make this a good deal to the colt?" .  Some good feel and timing and this guy should be walking with you anywhere and everywhere.
Let me know if you have any other questions.
