Question
Thinking of getting 3 year old stud do i need to clip or leave it alone? he is not broke but tame any ideas that you have would be great  thanks rachel

Answer
ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!???  Look Rachel, it is crazy obvious that you are a very green horse owner, let me make this perfectly clear...NO!!!

ONE:  ONLY stallions that have a clear and proven purpose should be left as a stallion.  Just because some dink was too dumb or lazy to geld their horse at or before 6 months of age does NOT mean it needs to stay a stallion.  THIS means Rachel, unless the horse has AMAZING bloodlines, a PROVEN performer, and handled by PROFESSIONALS that know HOW handle, train, and manage a stallion...IT SHOULD BE A GELDING.  NOW.

TWO:  It is not a "stud" it is a Stallion and animal capable of killing you in one fell swoop.  Stallions are different.  They are NOT for the green/amateur owner.  It is NOT fair for the horse because you, it is clear, would NOT know how to manage him.  Stallions need work, real work, a real job, real organization, real purpose.  It is clear how green you are because ANYONE competent, knowledgeable and experienced wouldn't even have to ask the question.

THREE:  NOT BROKE...TAME????  ARE YOU KIDDING ME???!!!  What is going on here????  There is NO such thing as a "tame" stallion, especially one that is not "broke"!!!  SHEEZE!!!!  We are talking about an intact, breeding animal that is going to respond to the lack of leadership by pawing some dink on the head!!!!  THEN the horse will have to pay the ultimate price for human stupidity!!!  ANYONE that owns a three year old, un-BROKE stallion should be whacked in the head with a manure spreader!!!!

Rachel, you need to wake up and run SCREAMING.  This horse needs to be a gelding, today.  The term is "geld" not clip, whack, chop, or anything else.  You need to find competent horsemen and women to help you out. You need a wake up call and that is what I'm doing!!!  I'm screaming at my computer!!!  This poor horse needs owners that will do the right thing by him and that is to call a good vet and have him gelded...Today!!!

Writing on this site I knew I was going to be dealing with some of the most inexperienced folk and that is okay.  I bang my head against the wall quite often but most people just need some help and guidance.  I have heard every lame, lazy excuse known to man so DON'T go there with me.  Stallion ownership is one of my personal pet peeves!!!!  It makes me crazy the dumb stuff horses have to endure because of the human.  A stallion KNOWS leadership.  He will take it from the lame humans that don't know.  People have been lucky to this point, but their luck will run out.  What will happen to them will be their fault and NOT the horses.

Rachel, what you need is an old schoolmaster. Some horse that has been there and done that.  Something that has been ridden a million miles and can fill in and take care of you while you learn, study and become a student of the horse.  This is what you need.  If you are not willing to do the work, to learn, research, study the horse...DON'T own one!!!!  WAY too many people own horses and don't know the first thing about them and yet I hear that lame line again and again "I have owned horses for XXX number of years"  I want to barf!!!  The people that own  this three year old are the same type of dink.  FIND good help!!!  DO your homework starting NOW.  I have some critical reading listed on my website, not much, but I expect people to start searching.  Rick Gore has a great site, tons of free info, read it.  I have MY teachers listed on my site, RIDE WITH ONE OF THEM or at least watch a clinic!!!

I want NO EXCUSES, NO WHINING, NO COMPLAINING, NO BLAMING...I want ACTION.  I want you reading, learning, attending clinics, finding QUALITY and above all I want you RUNNING away from the jackass that is offering you a three year old, green STALLION.  Got it????!!!!
