Question
my grandad recently bought a 2 year old Friesian. I was just wondering when is the best time to brake him in. As a fried has told me that because of his breed it is best to start when hes coming up four. I would be grateful of any advice

Answer
Hi Richard,

Warmbloods (including Fresians) are slow to mature so leaving them until later is good advice.  It's possible to train your horse to saddle at about 3 years old but he should not be ridden for more than 10 minutes at a time.   From 4 years onwards the riding time can be gradually increased.

A warmblood should not be ridden strenuously until at least 5 years old.

Leigh
