Question
QUESTION: I am considering becoming an owner of a 'free' 7yr old, gelding paint horse. The owner has three horses he can no longer take care of due to major health issues. I am only able to take one. First horse, neighbors are willing to help. I have a trainer for my daughter 8, who will help with getting the horse back to riding skills. I do not want to board the horse and want it on my property so I can do the 'homework' everyday from the training session once a week. I also want to build a relationship with us and the horse. I do not have much experience, but have determination and patience. Am I crazy? Your input will be much appreciated. Thank you.

ANSWER: lots of work, no horse is free, upkeep is what cost, and keeping a horse a lone is very bad for the horse and will cause lots of issues that you can't fix, especially since this horse has been with two buddies for a long time and now isolating him alone will really create problems.

Read my web site and watch my videos, it will provide some info on what you are taking on.

QUESTION: My neighbor has two horses within a 100ft view. The paint now is penned alone down a slope next to the other two who are penned together, no contact. Will it be okay that the paint be placed in a pen close to our neighbors horses within full view? Thank you for your first response. I have been watching the viedos, many more to study.

Answer
Horse needed to interact, they need to push each other, they need to be pushed, they to play, they need to bond so they can sleep, relax and feel like they have herd, people cannot do this, horses are awake 22 hours a day, they don't sleep much all that time needs to be filled with social and herd things, people can't do that.
